Report on Allegan

It was a wonderful summer day yesterday at Allegan. No rain and the sun was out in full force as well as lots of people. We were so busy that we didn't picture taken until well after much of our product had sold.

We sold lots of smalls. Our industrial items sold well first thing. Architectural and Garden items like urns did really well including a great old original paint wheelbarrow.

CJ assembled a great display of vintage glasses. The wonderful pair of sunglasses on the plate in the picture found a new home.

We set up with fellow dealers from Bluedoor Antique Mall. With such good neighbors next door we knew we would have a great time. We also got to see fellow dealer Daine Passi, her daughter Olivia and there very artsy booth display. Joe and Sandy from Rhubarb Reign were there and fun to visit with. We also saw people from Chicago, from the Holland show house and many other friends and neighbors that we wish to thank for stopping by to support us and say hi.

Our neighbor's had this wonderful pink bench made out of a bed that didn't sell. But, it will end up back at Bluedoor in Grand Rapids for those of you that are interested.
One of our  friends Connie Maitland who's items were in the booth next to us. Her creativity it an inspiration to all of us who know her and call her friend.

We had so much fun we are excited about doing Allegan next month. However, today we are just going to rest our tired bodies and recover from some of the very intense hot we experienced by afternoon yesterday.

Our Trip to Then & Now Antiques in Petoskey

Dan loaded the little trailer with 10 or his most wonderful creations, wrapped them all up and strapped them all down and away we went ( Dan, Scout our Britney & CJ ) to Petoskey to Then & now Antiques.
Along the way we found this most adorable nursery and bakery. We picked up a rhubarb pie with a nod to Joe and Sandy of Rhubarb Reign! Dan said "I think there is a rhubarb pie in my future!" & wow was it good. We shared it with Mom & Dad on their deck later that evening, experiencing a cool welcome breeze only like what you experience in Northern Michigan.
We were welcomed with delight by Tracy and Cindy at Then and Now Antiques.
With all of the pieces unloaded and all of us watered :> Thank you again Cindy for taking Scout for a romp - which she loved! Tracy took Dan around to her salvage stash pile to share some treasures, how sweet was that!
This shop is ready for the holiday weekend and SUMMER! take a look...........
This shop is loaded with great finds and we are so pleased to now be apart of that too.
And a special thank you to Tracy for sharing some of her vintage fabric stash with me too.
On the way over to Boyne City to Mom & Dads we drove by one of my old most favorite antique shops that is no more, but so totally inspired me over the years. "Glorie Be". This place held the magic for me. It is also a flower farm so the porch was always loaded with fresh cut or potted flowers along with antiques. Such a favorite combinations.
It was a fun trip, the pie was great, we enjoyed all of the sights (people on the beach already!), sounds, smells and hospitality of good people.

Estate Sale Finds

Estate sales are aways great places to find treasures. Yesterday I went to an estate sale and came home with some of the treasures in these pictures. I got to the estate sale a half an hour before they opened the garage and was given the number 79 to get into the sale. That meant there were 78 people ahead of me. While that appears to be a discouraging bit of news I have discovered that this first group of diehards that often get there ahead of me(sometimes they are there a 4 and 5 oclock in the morning) usual leave me opportunities to buy enough product.

The garage and basement are always my first favorite places to go. Cj usual heads to the bedrooms to look over fabric and vintage clothes. We have discovered that while we have to have to move quickly and make decision just as quickly it is also important to spend a lot of time looking over a crowded room very carefully. It is so easy to miss things. Often, the items that sit on the floor under tables have some of the best overlooked treasures.

Well, there are lots of Estate sales in our area this week so I need to run. But, I will report more this week about what we find. We are trying to place a number of our finds on Ebay or Etsy. We be can found on ebay under the name HATTIEMAEVANDAFF and on Etsy under the name HATTIEMAE. Take a look you may found some of our treasures from this sale.

Some of this week's projects

I built these night stands this week out of a six panel door and various architectural parts and pieces. They are painted a distressed white. They are at BlueDoor in Grand Rapids and can be purchased for $285.00.

I just put the finishing touches on this wonderful cabinet this week. It was an old industrial office cabinet that I painted a celery green. A great storage cabinet that can be found at Blue Door in Grand Rapids and can be yours for $385.00.

I spent most of the week in the shop and have been working on projects. We have to stock three antique malls now and have a shop up in northern Michigan that wants me to build some of my repuposed cabinets for them. So I am very busy.

Tonight is our down night together. Friday night is usually a night for us to have a little quality time together. It usually begins with a beer and a burger. So I have to run because I have a date with a very special lady. So more news when I get the time this weekend.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

I am so blessed to have the greatest Mom ever!
This is her high school graduation picture - I just love it!
I cannot give tribute to my Mom without also giving tribute to my Dad. Both of my parents have always been loving, supportive and creative. My Mom has always been a beautiful seamstress and taught me the skill and love of fabric. She also is very creative and crafty. She owned a darling store in Boyne City (Michigan) called the "Apple Bee Coterie", all hand made items on consignment. The store was in a little old turn of the century house - so charming! While I was in collage I would scoot home whenever possible to hang out in the store and experience all of the wonderful items that she and her partner made as well as the other consignors. Pretty soon I was adding hand made items to the store as well. Sweet pea and sweet annie wreaths are a couple that I remember. So making a living using your creativity and your hands is not a new concept to me. My parents taught me that I could do anything in life that I wanted as long as I was willing to work for it and the definition of success is doing what you want and making a living at it.
Thanks Mom ( & Dad) I love you very much!

A Little Sneak Peak @ Vintage Product on it's Way to Pentwater!

I think you all remember my love of patchwork and vintage fabrics. Here I have combined them with another love, vintage ticking and made these first of many to come pillows to add to our new booth space in Pentwater. It is a great way for me to use my scraps of vintage fabric or work around the sometimes worn areas of these amazing old prints. We are heading to Pentwater in the morning to set up our booth and help kick off the summer season there. It is such a pretty spot on Lake Michigan with lots of fun going on every weekend. I see many trips up their in our future with my beach bag too!
